Why isn’t Pocket free?

Free apps have to make money somewhere, usually from your data or by pushing other companies’ products on you. We’d rather just charge a fair price.

That price keeps us working for you, and lets us keep building Pocket for years to come (we have features planned you’ll adore).

Pocket also costs a lot to run. We pay our bank provider for every connection, every single month.

Your subscription pays for:

  • Bank sync, so you never type in or sort a transaction by hand.
  • Daily backups, so you never lose your data.
  • Free export, so you can take your data with you anytime.
  • A real person who answers within 24 hours (usually within a few hours).

What if finances weren’t stressful?

Or at least, the least stressful they can be?

That’s the goal behind Pocket.

Hello! We’re Mateo and Luka, the founders of Pocket.

For years, we used other apps, Excel, and even coded our own solutions, just so we could finally grasp our finances and feel at peace about them.

They were never good enough. The apps locked us into their way of doing things. The look and feel was bad, they didn’t work like they should have, and they just didn’t offer much at all.

Excel was okay, but impractical for everyday use, and our quickly coded solutions could never match what we could build if we truly focused on it.

That is what Pocket is.

The app built from our own frustrations with personal finance apps.

The app that we use and improve every single day, because it really is useful, with the goal of “it just works”.

For any improvements, feature requests, or feedback, you can reach us directly at mateo@joinpocket.app or luka@joinpocket.app.

We are betting a lot on the costs of running all this, especially the bank connection infrastructure.

We hope you’ll try it, and that Pocket can help you understand, plan, and finally feel better about your finances.

Sincerely,

FAQ

Pocket is the peaceful way to manage your money. It brings all your accounts into one place, sorts your spending for you so you have a clear view, and tells you what’s safe to spend without guilt.

It works on iPhone, Android and the web, all with one account.

Hi! We’re Mateo and Luka. For years we tried other apps, Excel, and even coded our own tools, just to feel at peace when we managed our finances. None of them were good enough, so we built Pocket. We use it every single day and work on it every day to keep making it better.

Do you have an idea or a question? Write to us at hello@joinpocket.app. You’ll get a real reply from one of us, usually within a few hours.

Yes. Pocket can only read your balances and transactions. It can’t move money, make payments or change anything at your bank.

It works like “Sign in with Google”. You log in on your bank’s own page or app, never inside Pocket, and your bank then lets Pocket read your accounts. Before you say yes, your bank shows you exactly what Pocket will see.

  • Your bank password never reaches Pocket.
  • The connection is read only by law. It runs on open banking (PSD2), the EU system for sharing bank data with apps you approve.
  • Our connection partner, Salt Edge, is the same one Revolut uses to connect to other banks. Salt Edge meets the highest standards of security. It is ISO 27001 certified, SOC 2 audited and PCI DSS compliant.
  • Your bank asks you to renew the permission every 90 days. You can revoke the access at any time inside of Pocket or in your bank’s app.
  • We never sell your data. We only make money through the subscription.

Your data is stored encrypted on Amazon Web Services servers in Frankfurt, Germany. It meets BSI C5, the German government’s cloud security standard, ISO 27001, and it is SOC 2 audited.

No. Pocket can only read your balances and transactions. It can’t move money, make payments, or change anything at your bank.

Under EU law and in your bank’s own systems, reading your account and making payments are two separate permissions. Pocket only ever asks for the reading one.

You don’t have to take our word for it. When you connect, your bank shows you exactly what Pocket can see, and moving money and making payments aren’t on that list. You can also end the connection any time, in Pocket or in your bank’s app.

Your money stays in your bank the whole time. Even when you set money aside in a pocket, nothing actually moves. Pocket just virtually keeps count for you, so you can plan for big purchases without worry or guilt.

  • See all your accounts in one place, with every transaction sorted into a category for you, and split transactions if they’re across different categories.
  • Monitor your balance, spending, and net worth with easy-to-understand graphs.
  • Know what’s safe to spend. Pocket forecasts your next three months from your income and spending.
  • See every payday, bill, and subscription on one timeline before it lands, including the subscriptions you forgot about.
  • Set aside money for the big stuff with pockets, virtual envelopes for big purchases. The new car, the holiday or the emergency fund.
  • Set up budgets in two taps. Pocket suggests them from a typical month and gives you a heads up when you’re getting close.
  • Stay on top of your finances without effort with daily, weekly and monthly recaps.
  • Log cash transactions in three taps.
  • Share it with your partner at no extra cost, so you can see your spending and plan your future together.
  • Use it on iPhone, Android and the web with one account, with a dashboard customised to what matters to you.

Pocket cannot:

  • Move money, pay anyone, or change anything at your bank. Your money never leaves your bank.
  • See or store your bank login. You log in at your bank. The bank hands Pocket a read-only permission you can revoke there, any time.
  • Sell or share your data. You pay us, so nobody else does. No ads, no commissions.

Pocket connects to 28 of the most popular banks in Ireland, including:

AIB, Bank of Ireland, PTSB, Revolut, An Post Bank, An Post Money Credit Card, N26, bunq, Wise, Barclays, PayPal, Curve, Avantcard and Crypto.com.

Business accounts too: AIB Business, Bank of Ireland Business On Line, Danske Bank Business, HSBCnet, ING Wholesale Banking, Barclays Corporate, Airwallex, Juni, Soldo, SumUp, Swan, Viva, Wamo and European Depositary Bank.

You can link as many accounts as you like, current and savings. We’re live in Ireland for now, with more EU countries coming.

In Pocket, open the bank connection and tap Disconnect. Pocket stops receiving new data from that bank straight away. With most banks you can also end it in your bank’s own app without a phone call. Either way, the permission ends by itself after 90 days unless you renew it.

Everything is deleted: your transactions, balances, pockets and bank connections. Before you delete, you can export all your data for free. Backups are deleted within 7 days.

Yes. Pocket works on iPhone, Android and the web, all with one account. Change something on your phone and it’s there on your laptop too.

Pocket makes tracking your cash balance and transactions the easiest it can be.

You can:

  • Create cash wallets
  • Log cash transactions in just 3 taps
  • Forgot to track for a while? Reconcile the amount and get your numbers up to date in 4 taps.

Free apps have to make money somewhere, usually from selling your data or by pushing loans and credit cards on you. We’d rather just charge a fair price.

  • Your subscription is the only way we make money. That keeps us working for you, and nobody else. We also have no investors to push us to cut corners.
  • Pocket costs a lot to run. We pay our bank provider for every connection, every single month.
  • This lets us keep building Pocket for years to come (we have features planned you’ll adore).

Pocket is €8.99 a month, or €59.99 a year, which works out to about €5 a month. You can try it free for 7 days first, no card needed.

Yes, and it’s a real person. It’ll be one of us, the founders of Pocket, Mateo or Luka.

Email mateo@joinpocket.app or luka@joinpocket.app and you’ll hear back within 24 hours, usually within a few hours.

Yes, and it’s free. Invite your partner and you both get Pocket for the price of one subscription.

You’ll both see the same picture: every account and card either of you connects, one Safe to spend number, shared pockets, and the weekly recap. So money talks stay calm, because you’re both looking at the same numbers.

Some things can stay yours:

  • Mark a pocket private and only you see it. Saving for a surprise gift or getaway? You can hide a pocket until a date you pick.
  • Hide any single transaction from your partner.

If either of you ever wants out, you can leave any time and take your own bank connections, cash wallets and private pockets with you.

Most money apps look backwards. They show you where your money went. Pocket looks forwards and tells you if you’re okay until payday, next month, and the month after.

  • It tells you what’s safe to spend. Pocket knows your income, your spending, and what you’ve set aside, and gives you one number you can actually spend guilt-free.
  • Budgets that don’t say no to you. Spend how you like. Pocket gives you a heads up when you’re getting close, and the decisions stay yours.
  • Pockets for the big purchases. The car repair, the holiday, Christmas.
  • Households. Your partner joins free, and you both see the same numbers.
  • Built for Ireland. It works with AIB, Bank of Ireland, PTSB, Revolut and more. Most big money apps are made for the US.
  • We actually work on the app. A founder answers, listens to your feedback and implements it fast. Whether that’s a bug or a feature you’d like, we actually care.
  • You can reach us, instead of an AI bot, within 24 hours. Usually within a few hours.

Pocket looks at what you usually spend in each category and suggests that as your starting budget. You can edit it to whatever you want in two taps.

Then just spend how you like. Pocket notifies you if you’re not on pace for the month, but it won’t tell you off for buying a coffee.

Yes, but it won’t nag you. Pocket will let you know:

  • If you’re spending fast enough to go well over a budget, you hear about it while there’s still time to take it a little easier.
  • If one big purchase eats a chunk of a budget, Pocket lets you know.
  • If you’re near the end of the month and still under, Pocket tells you that too.

You also get daily, weekly and monthly recaps, so you always know where your money went.

Yes, you can make a pocket for any expense. Say €600 for car insurance in March, or €300 for Christmas. Pocket works out how much to set aside, and the money stays in your bank the whole time.

Pocket will suggest how much you need to add per week, and you can set up automatic top-ups.

Your forecast already knows these bills are coming, so Safe to spend never counts that money as free. And Pocket reminds you before it is due.

Sort of, but way more relaxed. YNAB wants you to give every euro a job and approve every transaction yourself. That works for some people, but most of us give up by week three.

Pocket does the boring parts for you. It pulls in your transactions, sorts them, and finds your bills and payday. You just set money aside in pockets for the stuff that matters, and Pocket tells you what’s left to spend without guilt.

Pocket looks for things that keep coming back in your transactions: rent, Netflix, your gym, your salary. It works even when the date or the amount moves around a bit.

When it finds something new, it asks you. Confirm it, or tell Pocket it’s not a regular bill. Everything you confirm goes onto one timeline, so you see every bill and payday before it lands.

Yes. Make a pocket for whatever you’re saving for: the holiday, the deposit, a rainy day fund. Add a target and a date if you want, and Pocket shows you how you’re getting on. You can keep pockets private, or share them with your partner.

Paying off a loan or a credit card? Add it as a debt. Pocket spots your repayments automatically, so you can watch the balance go down and see when you’ll be done.

It takes about 5 minutes. Download the app on iPhone or Android. Connect your bank accounts. Pocket does the rest.

It pulls in your transactions, sorts them for you, and finds your payday and bills. You’ll see exactly where your money goes, and you can start planning the future with pockets and the forecast.
